Great
expectations.
When
UCF
welcomed
its
first
students
four
decades
ago,
it
would
have
been
hard
to
envision
the
university
today. Much
like
the
orphan
in
Charles
Dickens'
novel
who
eventually
realized
great
expectations,
UCF
has
begun
to
realize
extraordinary
success.
Seventh
in
size
in
the
US
according
to
enrollment,
UCF
has
earned
approval
to
build
a
medical
school,
its
first
class
expected
in
2008.
The
northeast
corner
of
campus
is
exploding
with
construction
as
new
residence
halls,
a
10,000-seat
convocation
center,
retail
shops
and
a
45,000
seat
on-campus
football
stadium
take
shape.
The
Florida
Interactive
Entertainment
Academy
(FIEA)
is
moving
into
its
second
year,
drawing
the
attention
of
world-wide
digital
media
giants.
In
2006
competition
for
MURI
grants
awarded
by
the
Department
of
Defense,
UCF
stunned
other
universities,
tying
with
the
California
Institute
of
Technology
for
the
highest
number
in
the
country.
After
a
winless
2004
football
season,
UCF
did
an
about-face
in
2005
its
first
year
in
Conference
USA
and
won
its
division.
These
are
just
a
few
of
the
many
signs
that
show
clearly
how
UCF
is
realizing
great
expectations.
But
just
as
clear
are
signals
that
the
best
is
still
to
come. What
a
wonderful
opportunity
we
have
as
Town & Gown
members
to
help
spread
the
word.
